Recycle cell phones and help our planet
These days everything is just a click away. Almost everything! Be it buying, selling or even recycling. Just type recycling cell phones in a search machine and watch out for the endless results. A significant surge in the number of websites providing this service has led to this boom on search machines. Since the awareness for recycling mobile phones has seeded amongst consumers, this business of getting rid of cell phones in a responsible manner is benefiting all, including our planet. Apart from doing their bit for environment, consumers are also lured to recycle their cell phones to gain some cash benefit too. Along with the cell phones, it is also essential to recycle the batteries that charge them up. As these batteries are short lived then the cell phones, they play a major role in feeding e-waste heaps. They need to be disposed off with care equally. Currently less than 3% of portable batteries in the UK are recycled. BatteryBack provides a FREE treatment and recovery service for all portable batteries. Even WasteCare takes care of Battery recycling with great responsibility.

Lee Iacocca To Lose Company Car And Pension In Chrysler Bankruptcy
Filed under: Wheels

It’s trendy lately to rage against the cushy deals that retired execs get but it saddens me a little to learn that Lee Iacocca, the car executive who turned Chrysler around n the 1980s, may lose a major part of his pension and a guaranteed life-long company car as part of the fall-out from Chrysler’s bankruptcy deal. Reuters reports that Chrysler CEO Robert Nardelli told a U.S. bankruptcy court that Iacocca’s pension would be among the obligations Chrysler won’t be paying if it gets bankruptcy court approval to sell itself to a “New Chrysler” to be owned by its union, the U.S. and Canadian governments and Fiat. Iacocca’s retirement was part of a supplemental executive retirement plan including non-IRS qualified pension funds that are therefore subject to bankruptcy. Chrysler is also stopping a program that gave company cars for life to former executives and directors including Iacocca (shown above in 2005 with a Mercedes Maybach).
Iacocca came to national attention in the 1980s when he starred in the Chrylser commercials touting the quality and durability of his American-made cars. I’ve embedded a commercial from 1984 after the jump, it’s interesting to see how Iacocca dealt with the bankruptcy facing his company over two decades ago.

Rinspeed Announces Limited-Edition Artwork Prints
Swiss coachbuilder Rinspeed never ceases to amaze with its far-out concept cars, so our interest was naturally piqued when we heard that the quirky company was launching a new series of limited-edition print artwork using its own vehicles, such as the E2 Fiat 500, iChange, sQuba and eXasis concepts, as subject matter.
Prints from Rinspeed’s Official Fine Graphic Art Collection are now available for order from Rinspeedart.com on the buyer’s choice of canvas, art paper or plexiglass, making them perfect for automotive gearheads looking to decorate their favorite hangout or workstation. There’s also a series of five Futuristm prints that are limited to runs of 20 pieces each.
Just like the coachbuilder’s own concepts cars, each print will be crafted in Sweden. Each will be available in multiple sizes and, therefore, prices, starting at 115 Euros ($160) for artwork printed on paper, though that amount rises rapidly as the size increases and the medium changes to plexiglass. See the official press release after the break and be sure to check out some of the unique pieces in our gallery below.

Carbon pollution to grow by 40pc mostly from India and China

A US government report says that by 2030 carbon pollution will grow by 40 percent, much of it to come from China and India. Their growing economies will prove the biggest threat to the atmosphere which is facing huge concerns of depletion. According to the report there will be substantial growth in the use of renewable energy sources such as hydropower, wind and solar, the report said. But it also said overall growth in demand will require continued reliance on fossil fuels, especially oil and coal. President Obama is taking this quite seriously and thank God for that keeping in mind all the ice caps of Greenland that is decreasing as we type. Congress is considering legislation that would reduce greenhouse gases by 17 percent by 2020 and about 80 percent by mid-century and Obama has called for mandatory limits on greenhouse gases. An international conference is scheduled for December to try to work out a treaty requiring such emission reductions.
From your part, you can try and reduce this by choosing eco-friendly products and walking more. It not only reduces the fat but also carbon in the air.

Rolls Royce 200EX comes with an automatic purse holder just for the ladies
![]()
Ever wondered where to put your purse in a car without it slipping down all the time? Well, Rolls Royce has come up with the solution for this problem after an engineer’s wife complained about this. The Rolls Royce 200EX comes with this really convenient feature that is a purse pop out section of the back seat complete with wings to support the width of the purse. It’s bound to be loved by every woman as it senses your purse and automatically slides up to give it a little squeeze and secure it in place. The car concept saw it’s debut launch in Geneva and recently it made an appearance in Beverly Hills. The car is all set to go into production in 2010. It looks like a classic beauty as far as looks go. I’m sure with this new purse feature every woman is going to push her man to get one. Hopefully, the more affordable cars will adopt this concept too!

Simon Schubert creates unique artworks by folding papers
I personally love to see the works of artists who dare to be different and who prefer to use unique objects to create their masterpieces. And the artist who has emerged a winner by daring to be different is German artist Simon Schubert who makes unique artworks by folding papers. His beautiful artworks look like paintings with a 3D effect. He said in an interview with the Daily Telegraph: “Most of the people who see the work are surprised that the pictures are created by folding paper, they don’t believe it when I tell them.” Seriously, it is hard to believe that these designs are not created by using a pencils or paints. It takes the 33year old just a week to create these amazing artworks but it was not so easy in the beginning. It took the budding artist two years to master this technique! But his patience and efforts have definitely paid off as his artworks fetch up to £3,800 ($6,000)!
But for those who still doubt his skill, you can check out his display at the Upstairs gallery in Berlin, where one room has been covered in 150 of his designs - giving the impression the whole room is folded. I am sure you will come out appreciating the young man’s talent.

Christie’s four day sale in Hong Kong fetches a whopping $138 million

Auction houses are the only ones, who could, can and always will laugh in the face of recession. Collectors will go to any length to get the item of their dreams and hence always make profits for the auction houses. This display of hunger for their favorite works was portrayed by various bidders at a recent auction held by Christie’s in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is Christie’s third-biggest market after New York and London and its hub for the sale of Chinese antiquities. Christie’s International’s four-day sale of 1,600 paintings, gems and antiques totaled HK$1.07 billion ($138 million), beating its presale estimate of HK$750 million ($96 million). This was also Christie’s first auction in China since the company’s Feb. 25 auction of looted Qing bronzes in Paris, which sparked outrage in Beijing. The auction proved that the slump in the art market was definitely over and that this is the best time for sellers to sell their treasures. Works by Chinese masters fetched the highest prices.
The four most expensive were paintings by China-born, Paris-based artist Zao (born in 1921) and Sanyu (1901-1966), whose 1950s work “Cat and Birds” fetched HK$42.1 million ($5.4 million), a record price at auction for a work by the painter. A complete extravaganza it was not just art works but authentic timepieces (a Patek Phillipe wristwatch fetched a whopping HK$28.4 million ($3.6 million)) and ceramics who also found enthusiastic bidders. This four day sale has proved that no matter where the economy stands, the auction houses will always stay strong.

Mobile internet technology for real time monitoring of noise and air quality

This is an exciting new solution that enables action driven citizens to improve and share environmental best practices. Bluetooth wireless devices will be used in combination with mobile phones for first large scale deployment in Paris. Air pollution is one of the most important factors affecting the quality of life and the health of the increasingly urban population. Currently the data of different pollutants measured at different stations in a city are typically aggregated to a single number. Air pollution is highly location dependent, especially in the vicinity of traffic chokepoints. The miniature wrist worn solution leverages geolocation chips and mobile technologies. Such devices transform mobile phones into measurement instruments using Bluetooth communication. Sensaris provides mobile centric solutions bases on geolocations, wireless communication and low power.
